Creative support for health and wellbeing through music

What is music therapy?

Music therapy is a research-based allied health profession in which music is used to actively support people as they aim to improve their health and well-being. It can help people of all ages to manage their physical and mental health and enhance their quality of life.

Music Therapy is an approved support within the NDIS, with sessions being tailored to each participant’s specific goals and needs. Music Therapy is a collaborative process and can support numerous goals without the need for any musical experience.

Music Therapy allows us to foster connection, individuality and community through our unique relationships with music.

music therapy for individuals, families and groups

I work with clients toward their health and wellbeing goals in 1:1 individual sessions.

At times, families may wish to attend music therapy with their young children to foster connection through family-centred musical experiences.

I also run groups for those who are seeking opportunities for social connection, or prefer to make meaning of their own experiences through sharing with others

Nice to meet you!

I’m Freya

I am a Registered Music Therapist based in Melbourne’s vibrant Inner West. I wholeheartedly believe in the capacity for Music Therapy to enhance wellbeing and to generate change and personal growth, no matter your age or circumstance.

I became a Music Therapist after witnessing first hand the ways in which music allows us to communicate and relate to others without using words. The experience of listening to or creating music can have a profound influence on our physical and emotional health, with Music Therapy acting as a supportive framework to explore feelings and connections within ourselves and to others.

I employ a strengths-based approaches to ensure that each individual’s unique lived experiences determine the therapy content. I hope to build a sense of trust as we collaborate to explore how music can best support your physical and emotional health needs together.

I offer outreach services to attend Music Therapy sessions in your home, school or community space

Freya is a graduate of The University of Melbourne’s Master of Music Therapy course and is registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA)

Freya also holds several qualifications in music performance from both the University of Western Australia and the Queensland Conservatorium - Griffith University, and is a graduate of the Australian National Academy of Music’s Professional Performance Program.

Young People

I work with young people by fostering trusting partnerships and holding space for changing beliefs and experiences. We will work to understand the context of their strengths and challenges and work with their support networks to ensure their needs are being met.

Adults

I work with adults to engage physical, mental and emotional supports for their health and wellbeing. Drawing on the strength of lived experience allows for exploration and processing of challenges through music.
